ALVTechnologies Philippines Incorporated was invited to speak at the 2024 EMB Interlaboratory Comparison Exercises, held at the Luxent Hotel on August 15, 2024.
The Interlaboratory Exercises is a 10-day event from August 6 to 16, 2024, that aimed to assess the proficiency and adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) among laboratory analysts from all EMB Regional Environmental Laboratories (REL) nationwide.
Engr. Anne Janeslyn Go, Applications Engineer at ALVTechnologies, delivered a presentation on “Microplastics Characterization by Raman Microscopy.” Microplastics are increasingly recognized as a significant concern due to their potential health risks to both humans and the environment. In response, countries around the world are implementing stricter regulations to monitor and control the release of these microparticles into the environment.
In her presentation, Engr. Go emphasized that several techniques have been established as reference methods for microplastic determination, including pyrolysis GC-MS, infrared spectroscopy, and Raman microscopy. However, only Raman microscopy can provide the best combination of information in both morphological and chemical characterization, allowing for detailed analysis of each particle down to the micron scale.
ALVTechnologies Philippines Incorporated, together with our manufacturer – HORIBA Scientific, offers solutions to researchers for microplastics characterization and identification using Raman Spectroscopy. To know more about HORIBA’s global efforts in microplastics research, visit https://horiba.com/microplastics. Application notes, webinars, and other downloadable materials are also available on the website.
We would like to extend our gratitude to DENR-EMB for inviting us to their event and for the opportunity to be one of the speakers.
