ALVTechnologies, together with the Institute of Chemistry, University of the Philippines Diliman and Sigmatech
Inc. conducted the SCAN 2012 (Surfaces, Colloids and Nanomaterials 2012) Lecture Forum and a joint
University of the Philippines and Case Western Reserve University Symposium last December 11-12, 2012
at the Institute of Chemistry Teaching Building.
Day One of the Lecture Forum was initiated by Dr. Rigoberto Advincula, Professor of Macromolecular
Science and Engineering, Case Western Reserve University. Topics of interest discussed were Surface
Plasmon Resonance Spectroscopy, Polymers in Medicine and Drug Delivery, Electrochemistry, Impedance
Analysis, Biosensing and Molecular Imprinting.
Day Two of the Lecture Forum featured various speakers from Case Western Reserve University and University
of the Philippines, namely Dr. Anna Samia, Prof. Clemens Burda, Dr. Imee Su-Martinez and Dr. Gerry Nuesca.
A discussion and open forum regarding Graduate School Studies for Case Western Reserve University capped
off the event.
The event also culminated together with the opening of the ANSER (Advanced Nanomaterials, Sensors
and Environmental Research) Laboratory. Equipment provided by ALVTechnologies such as Multi Parameter
Surface Plasmon Resonance System, Spectroscopic Ellipsometer, Quartz Crystal Microbalance and HEPA Filter
System were showcased during the inauguration.
ALVTechnologies would like to thank all participants of the SCAN 2012 Lecture Forum. Special thanks goes out
as well to Dr. Florian Del Mundo (Director, Institute of Chemistry) and Dr. Rigoberto Advincula for working with
us for this event. Our appreciation also goes out to RAs Gracile Celine Roxas and Clarisse Buensuceso for the
