Surface and Interface studies require the use of complementary analytical techniques as each instrumentation provides partial results only, also based on the interaction of the investigated material with a probing medium. For multiple materials & coatings, obtaining elemental and molecular information for different probing size and depth is especially crucial. HORIBA offers a Platform with multiple instruments that could be coupled permitting to tackle complex analytical challenges.

In this webinar, we will essentially focus on the combination of Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry and Raman.

GD OES relies on a plasma to sputter a representative area of a material and provides ultra-fast elemental depth profile with nanometer resolution. The GD plasma has already been used to prepare samples for SEM and GD has been coupled with XPS and HAXPES for Photovoltaic and Semi applications. Coupling GD and Raman is very interesting to simultaneously obtain both the elemental profiles and molecular information of multilayers at various depths possibly with high lateral resolution.

We will illustrate the benefit of this complementarity by showing selected results on polymeric coatings on metallic substrates (with the use of a patented plasma operation mode), hydratation of anodic films, batteries, coatings on glasses and DLC coatings on bipolar plates.
